The formal alliance between the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections has been presented as a non-BJP, non-Congress alternative. However, recent political developments raise serious questions about its real purpose. Instead of bringing together the broader opposition forces to challenge the BJP, the two parties have chosen to go their separate way. This risks dividing the non-BJP vote and, intentionally or otherwise, could make the BJP’s task easier in the next election. Goans deserve to know why these parties have refused to work with other opposition forces in the larger interest of defeating the BJP. As GPCC president Girish Chodankar remarked, the alliance appears to be more about “Personal Agenda First” than “Goa First.” Ultimately, political parties must put Goa and its people above personal ambitions and ministerial aspirations. Voters are capable of judging who genuinely works for their interests. Leaders who disregard the people’s expectations and divide the opposition should not be surprised if Goans express their disappointment through the ballot box.
