Awareness events must go beyond designated weeks

The government annually observes several awareness events, including National Road Safety Month, Financial Literacy Week, National Safety Week, Prevention of Blindness Week, Fire Service Week, Digital India Week, Breastfeeding Week and National Nutrition Week. There are also initiatives such as Hindi Pakhwada, Wildlife Week, Vigilance Awareness Week, National Newborn Week, National Integration Week and Good Governance Week. These are all commendable initiatives aimed at making citizens more conscious about safety, health, financial literacy, environmental conservation, integrity, governance and national integration. However, the question is whether awareness and implementation should be confined to the designated days or weeks. The objectives of these campaigns can be achieved meaningfully only when the lessons and practices promoted during these events are followed throughout the year. This requires sustained efforts not only from government departments and agencies, but also from citizens, corporate houses, factories, industries and other stakeholders. Safety, health, integrity, responsible citizenship and good governance require continuous attention and action. Only then can these well-intentioned awareness campaigns achieve their true purpose and have a lasting impact on society.
