Blame the drivers, not the roads

Blame the drivers, not the roads

The villagers of Siolim, with the help of dynamic MLA Delilah Lobo and PWD officials, managed to install the much-needed height barrier to prevent heavy trucks, which had caused several accidents, claimed lives and damaged the compound walls of Siolcars. Now, however, we have another problem created by light goods vehicles fitted with extra-height cabins that are neither approved nor permitted by the RTO. The PWD should now file police complaints and take steps to recover damages from such negligent drivers, who are responsible for several accidents on Goan roads.

These drivers overspeed, ignore traffic signage and drive on Goan roads as if they own them. They violate traffic rules, pay small bribes or fines and go free. Welcome to the land of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat — where road development seems to have become a means of putting more precious lives at risk. The drivers are reckless and negligent. There is no point in blaming the RTO for issuing licences, as the responsibility does not rest entirely with them. God save Goenkars on these roads.
