The High Court needs to issue a directive forthwith to municipalities, particularly directing them to dismantle each and every hoarding within the prescribed 49-metre limit, in accordance with existing provisions. These hoardings are not only an eyesore, littering the horizon, but are also a source of distraction and can contribute to accidents.
Ironically, the biggest violator is the Government itself, with huge display boards erected along highways. Such forms of advertising along highways are unheard of in the West. In the age of Digital India, suitable alternatives should be found that are in keeping with the times, without compromising road safety or the beauty of our highways.
