This is with reference to the report on the Porvorim elevated corridor. It has become a persistent pattern in the BJP regime to lay excessive emphasis on advertisement and publicity of projects, policies and schemes. Apparently, preparations for the inauguration of the Porvorim flyover included erecting a special ceremonial stage on the Panaji side and organizing a planned public walk-through. Now that the inauguration is over, the bad experiences and ground realities of the project are coming to light. This has to stop. None of these projects, policies, or schemes are privately sponsored or premium offerings. They are part of basic infrastructure development and welfare programmes and are funded entirely by taxpayers' money. The projects are already expensive and on top of that politicians adding extra costs for self-promotion and advertising makes no sense. Had the focus been on feasibility, cost-benefit analysis and timely, quality delivery, the Porvorim flyover project would not have become so controversial today.
