Whatever the cause or the ideology, the path forward must remain firmly within the framework of the Constitution. The right to peaceful assembly and peaceful protest is a cornerstone of any democracy. Equally important is the responsibility to ensure that demonstrations remain non-violent, respect public property, comply with lawful directions where applicable, and do not disrupt the rights of fellow citizens. If there are grievances, let them be articulated through dialogue, constitutional remedies and democratic persuasion, not through intimidation, vandalism or confrontation. A movement's legitimacy is strengthened not by the volume of its slogans but by the discipline of its conduct. Peaceful, lawful and constitutional methods are not a sign of weakness; they are the very foundation of a mature democracy. Many today's events demonstrate that disagreements can be expressed with dignity, restraint and unwavering respect for the rule of law. I hope the government too listens to what are entirely just causes.
