“Even if there is a 1% chance, fight with everything you have!” I have come across this powerful quote in many places, and I find it truly inspiring. It is especially relevant in the fight to preserve Goa, its environment, ecology, forests, trees, hills and identity. Many others have also dedicated themselves to this cause, often making great personal sacrifices. The odds are clearly stacked against Goa. This is largely driven by greed and the selfish pursuit of power by various destructive lobbies, including the coal and real estate sectors, with the full backing of Goa’s highly corrupt ruling politicians, certain panchas, and even some bureaucrats and government officials. Adding to this is the complacent and careless attitude of many Goans, some of whom sadly continue to believe in the “Maka Kiteak Poddla” mindset. Even so, this quote gives us hope and the strength to keep fighting. We never know when the tide may turn. In any case, surrendering or giving in to Goa’s highly compromised and destructive ruling ministers and MLAs is simply not an option.
