Ever since Tukaram Mundhe took over as Commissioner, Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Maharashtra, the state has witnessed a spate of raids on food and drug purveyors. A day doesn't pass by without a raid and no one is spared. Even international outlets/brands have come under the scanner. The FDA has spread its tentacles to far reaches of the state. The ripple effect is being felt in other states. State FDAs have suddenly woken up from their slumber. Even street carts are trying to clean up their act. This begs the question: What was the FDA doing all these years? Perhaps a raid or two,
here and there. What exactly were hundreds of personnel in each state, doing all these years? Feathering their nests?
