Supreme Court sets record straight on Form 6

During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, an additional online declaration section was added. This required first-time voters to link their details to their parents or grandparents, providing ancestral proof of registration in previous SIR cycles. On September 26, the ECI claimed in a press note that this new declaration annexed to Form 6 had been formally "upheld" and approved by the Supreme Court.

However while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, the bench headed by CJI Surya Kant directly refuted the ECI’s stance, saying : The Modified Form 6 has not been approved by us, let us be very clear. Is that the GenZ effect on the SC? Whatever be the reason, it is cause for cheer.
