This is with reference to the manner in which the government is involving itself to prevent protests against corruption allegations levelled against an ECI chief. It is unfortunate to witness what feels like an undeclared emergency by the government. The protesters are young and the topic of their protest is very clear. The allegations are not being investigated instead they are being defended by a political party. Such actions themselves act as proof of the corruption alleged. Secondly, when the courts and law enforcement agencies appear to act at the behest of a political party it goes to further prove that bodies which should act independently as per the design of our democratic system are not doing so. The ruling party is not acting as per the Constitution and this marks the lowest point in Indian politics. The tainted Emergency of 1975-77, a topic that was exploited by the BJP for elections for years, will now bite them back. What we are seeing today is no different.
