Youth up in arms to protect democracy

The youth and people of India have taken to the streets to defend their democratic rights—rights that seem to be taken for granted by ministers and the Election Commission. A corrupt system has left voters no choice but to demand accountability, pushing out ministers and officials who ignore their voices and act against their own citizens. It is disheartening to see the police treating protests, such as those by the CJP youths at Jantar Mantar, like a game of “catch me if you can.” How many cases will be filed against the future of India? Why is the government failing to clean up corruption instead of enabling it? Enough is enough. The CJP and young protesters will no longer stay silent. It is alarming that politicians appear to be teaching harsh lessons on the streets, with the police acting as government robots — beating young men and women instead of protecting them. Citizens are losing trust in both the police and politicians. Democracy demands respect, not repression.
