The tragic crash on the newly inaugurated Porvorim flyover, in which two precious lives were reportedly lost, should shake the conscience of every person responsible for planning, approving and opening this project to the public. The people of Goa deserve a straight answer: Who takes responsibility when a major infrastructure project is inaugurated with great political fanfare, but adequate traffic-safety arrangements appear to be missing? Was the flyover opened before the originally scheduled date? If so, why was there such urgency? Was the timing linked to the forthcoming Chaturthi festivities or the desire to showcase the project before the Assembly elections? These questions cannot simply be brushed aside as political criticism. When human lives are lost, the public has a right to demand answers.
