All over the world, Goans are making their mark in various fields, including music. Born and raised in the village of Curtorim, Russel Diniz began his musical journey in Goa where he spent a few years as the lead singer of a popular local band, Big City Band. He later moved to the UK and formed The Iron Mountain with the goal of writing music. Since its inception five years ago, the group have delighted audiences at significant events across the world including the London Olympics in 2012. The line-up comprises of Russel on lead, vocals and guitar, Marco on vocals, production and lead guitar, Gerrardo as bassist, and James on drums.
This versatile band based out of central London can traverse various genres such as Pop, Rock, Reggae, Country, and Blues. They are presently on a three-week-long tour of India, performing at Goa, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi.
Goa was naturally the band’s first stop. “I wanted to return here with a different sound, and to rekindle old memories and take my music to a higher level with my UK based band mates,” says Russel, the founder member and leader of the band.
The Iron Mountain have gained notable success over the years for their captivating stage presence. “We want to keep the crowd engaged and entertained at all times. We do so by ensuring all our performances are electrifying and sort of like an explosion,” laughs Russel.
