Vijai says he is not talking in thin air about Plan B

MARGAO

Goa Forward Party supremo and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai said that the Plan B mooted by him will not only ensure the continuance of the coalition government, but will also avoid dissolution of the Goa Legislative Assembly and mid-term election.

Without unveiling the nature of Plan B, the TCP Minister said the plan has been mooted in the wake of political developments unfolding in the State. Without directly naming the coalition partner MGP for taking steps which may end up in violating the coalition dharma, Sardesai said that certain developments emanating in the state may not ensure the continuance of the coalition government headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar if these forces are allowed to have their way.

“I am not talking in thin air. When I say there’s a plan B in place, I am serious that the plan will help ensure the continuance of the coalition government and avoid dissolution of the Assembly,” he said.

That the Goa Forward Party chief has been on record last stating that there’s MGP 1 and MGP 2 indicates that he along with the major coalition partner has come out with an alternative plan in the event MGP Chief Deepak Dhavlikar goes ahead and contests the Shiroda bypoll.

Sources said the BJP and the GFP have taken serious cognizance of Deepak Dhavlikar’s stand that he will not do a re-think on his plan to contest the Shiroda bypoll. Congress party’s appeal to the voters of both Mandrem and Shiroda to elect the Congress in these seats with a promise to form a new government under the Congress government has also come under the scanner of the two major coalition partners.

Sources in the know said that the BJP top leadership is believed to have conveyed a clear message to the Dhavlikar brothers not to do anything that would disturb the coalition government. “It does not look good when a coalition partner vows to contest the ensuing bypoll against another coalition partner. This will not only send a negative picture about the government, but will only cause instability. The Goa Forward chief’s talk of Plan B is an attempt to avoid this emerging situation as well as ensure the continuance of the coalition government,” sources in the GFP informed.
