During his recent State visit, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stayed at one of Goa’s iconic hotels “ Cidade de Goa, IHCL SeleQtions. Cidade, on its part, did not leave any stone unturned in offering the best of Goan hospitality to de Sousa.
Upon his arrival at Cidade de Goa, the President was given a traditional welcome of aarti tika, followed by a performance by Goan serenaders.
Vineet Soni, resident manager, Cidade de Goa “ IHCL SeleQtions, said, “After the welcome, our team showed the President around the property and also talked about its unique architecture designed by world-renowned architect Charles Correa. We also showed him our signages, which are in Portuguese. For example, we use words like ‘quarto’, which is the Portuguese word for room.”
In a sense, Cidade de Goa was just the apt place for the Portuguese President and his delegation to stay, because it depicts Goan history heavily influenced by Portuguese cuisine, culture and architecture.
Soni further informed that 50 rooms were booked at the hotel for the President and his delegation.
The President also hosted hi-tea for Portuguese nationals of Goa at Laranja Restaurant at Cidade de Goa. Noted Goan singer Remo Fernandes was present on the occasion.
