A driver has been booked on charges of seriously assaulting a truck owner from Khamamol-Curchorem.
According to the complaint Sierra Mascarenhas, her husband Tasman Fernandes was allegedly assaulted by Mohammed Sheikh (50) of Karnataka with a sharp weapon at about 5 am on Sunday.
She further said the accused had been allowed to stay in one of the rooms of their office as he was on the lookout for rented premises.
Fernandes was rushed to Curchorem Community Health Centre and was later moved to Hospicio Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, Fernandes was later referred to the GMC Hospital at Bambolim for treatment.
On receiving the complaint, Curchorem police were on the lookout for the accused. They found all his belongings packed and kept outside the room he was temporarily staying. Although some people in the locality have informed of seeing him that morning the police couldn’t trace him. Although his whereabouts are unknown, Investigating Officer PSI Vaibhav Naik said that the police team is on the lookout for him.
When contacted, Sierra Fernandes said her husband had recently started some transportation business and was in need of truck drivers. He had temporarily employed Sheikh, who had earlier worked for him for some time.
On Saturday night, an argument broke out between Fernandes and Sheikh, before the matter appeared to have been resolved.
When Fernandes later went to handover a food packet to the accused, he was struck from behind with a sharp weapon. Curchorem Police have registered an offence against Sheikh under Section 326 IPC and are investigating the matter.
