Get ready for a melange of classical dance performances as the 24th edition of the prestigious ‘Nupur’, a classical dance festival, is all set to be organized by Kala Academy Goa and the West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur from February 16 to 18 at the Mahalasa Devasthan, Mardol. The festival will be inaugurated by Govind Gaude, Minister of Art & Culture and Chairman of Kala Academy and Vinod Kamat, President, Shree Mahalasa Saunsthan on February 16. This will be followed by a Bharatanatyam dance concert and later a Kathak dance recital by Deepali Vichare and group from Mumbai.
On February 17, Nritya Sankul, Margao will present a Bharatanatyam dance recital following which Rajeshwari Kumar from Mumbaiwill take the stage for a kathak dance concert. On the concluding day, a Kathak dance concert will be staged by students of Kala Academy Goa. The festival will conclude with an Odissi dance recital by Kabita Mohanty and group, Gurgaon.
Deepali Vichare
Kathak dance exponent Deepali Vichare secured Nritya Alankar equivalent to Master Degree from Gandharva Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Miraj under the able guidance of Guru Asha Joglekar. An expert in also performing folk dances, she is a graded artist of Doordarshan and has performed at various national level festivals. She has also staged classical dance concerts with Asha Joglekar and Archana Joglekar. Performing alongside her at the festival will be Madhavi Phansekar, Sarika Phadtare, Vishaka Apte, Ridhi Nikam, Isha Indulkar, Samrudhi Joshi, Nilam Mane and Dipti Rao.
Rajeshwari Kumar
Rajeshwari Kumar received her taleem under the aegis of Kathak exponent Guru Pt. Rajendra Gangani of Jaipur gharana. She received her post graduation degree in Kathak from Kathak Kendra, New-Delhi. Rajeshwari has staged a Kathak dance recital at reputed dance festivals like Pt. Haridass Sangeet Sammelan 2007 - Mumbai, Kalidass Festival 2008 in Strishakti troupe - Ajanta Ellora Festival 2009, Kalaashram Panchtatva Festival 2010 and and also on international platforms in countries like UAE, USA, UK and others. While she presents the traditional classical form of Kathak, she has also experimented by combining kathak with contemporary forms of music without compromising on the pure form of Jaipur gharana.
Kabita Mohanty
Hailing from Odisha, Kabita Mohanty pursues Odissi with fervent dedication. Equipped with an eight year integrated course in classical dance and the Nrutya Bhushan diploma in Odissi under Khairagarh University of Madhya Pradesh, she also holds a degree in Odissi from Chandigarh University.
Kabita Mohanty’sskills were further nurtured by gurus like Raghunath Dutta, Guru Mayadhara Rout and Late Kelucharan Mohapatra. She has given performances in various dance festivals like Taj Festival - Agra, Thanjavaur Dance Festival, Tamil Nadu, Puri Beach Festival, Mukteshwar Festival, Mandu festival, Khajurao Festival, MP and Shravanabelagola Festival, Karnataka. At Nupur, she will be performing along with Kabita Mohanty, Prakash Mohanty, Sangeeta Mohanty, Pushpanjali Mohanty, Rajanikant Mohanty, Twinkle Anfreen, Arushi and Nandini.
Nritya Sankul, Margao
Nritya Sankul, Margao, an institution working in the field of classical dance will also be a part of the festival. Under the guidance of Sachika Almeida, a few of her students i.e. Tanisha Naik, Richa Kalangutkar, Vidisha Gaonkar, Kalpita Sawant and Rupa Hegde will perform group choreography in Bharatanatyam dance form.
Kala Academy Goa (Faculty of Indian Music & Dance)
The students of Faculty of Indian Music & Dance of Kala Academy (Aditi Naik, Manjushri Mate, Gautami Khandeparkar, Shruti Korjuevekar, Sweccha Gadkar, Sai Kanuka Kanapanani, Saniya Nadkarni, Divyata Harmalkar, Gauri Shanbhag, Tirtha Shetye, Mahika Harmalkar and Anusha Adkonkar) will perform Bharatanatyam Dance (group choreography) under the guidance of Bharatanatyam lecturer Mandira Joshi and Sapna Naik. Apart from this Arya Rege, Anushka Karambelekar, Sakshi Shetye, Sharmada Shetty and Pratiksha Govekarwill perform Kathak dance (group choreography) under the guidance of Kathak lecturer Varada Bedekar.
