Kala Academy in collaboration with India International Rural Cultural Center, New Delhi will be organizing ‘Pravah’ “ a 2 day festival of classical dance on October 27 and 28 at 6 pm at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, Kala Academy, Panaji. Govind Gaude, minister for Art and culture and chairman of Kala Academy, Goa will inaugurate the festival on Saturday, October 27 at 6pm at the aforesaid venue.
The programmes on both the days are open to all the dance and music lovers. However, some seats will be reserved. After the inaugural function on October 27 at 6.10 pm renowned Kathak dancer Madhumita Roy Misra from Kolkata assisted by her 6 member group will present Kathak dance recital in group choreography. Odissi & Chhau dancer Sushant Maharana from New Delhi along with 7 co-artists will present group choreography in Odissi and Chhau dance from 6pm onwards on October 28.
Madhumita Roy Misra is well known name in Kathak dance field. Born in a musical family as an infant prodigy, she was initially nurtured under Late Pt Ramgopal Mishra in Jaipur Gharana style of Kathak. Thereafter, took talim in Lucknow Gharana style under Pt Vijay Shankar at Padatik Dance Centre, Kolkata. She has also taken advance training under the direct guidance of Kathak Maestro Pt Birju Maharaj at Delhi. She is a Top graded artiste of Doordarshan. Very widely travelled in India and abroad, Madhumita has already established herself as an eminent Kathak dancer as a soloist as well as a choreographer.
Sushant Maharana is a budding talent, well-trained in Chhau and Odissi dance styles. Dance has been an integral part of his life for the last 25 years. Sushant is the inheritor and proponent of his illustrious father Odissi Maestro Guru Shri Trinath Maharana. He has been trained under his father with deep dedication and discipline. A dancer of vision and versatility, Sushant is known for his intense, dynamic and energetic performance. His Nritya and Abhinaya have a proportionate blend of skill and commitment which reflects in his presentations. Sushant is a committed artist towards undiluted and authentic approach to Odissi. He is a dedicated teacher of Manjari Odissi Nrityalaya; a school set up by Guru Trinath Maharana that teaches Indian Classical dance forms and music. He is founder and choreographer of a troupe-Nrityamanjari; a group of performing artists.
Kala Academy has appealed the dance lovers to attend the festival on both the days.
