FC Goa, Manchester United, Indian football team, FC Bardez…I support all these teams.

No right way to write

I get this feeling that there is a story within me. Some parts of the story appear to me like puzzles but I do not know how to connect them. Characters appear in my mind with great backstories but I don’t know what to make them do in the story. Nothing comes out when I sit down to write. I have trouble with showing situations. I do read a lot to get some knowledge and inspiration but it's been two years and I still got nothing. What do I do?

Jimmy

Let me tell you this story about a friend of mine. He is a writer who worked in some big companies, he is well respected and he has this amazing idea for a book. But, he just couldn’t find the time write it and when he was very busy with work, he would suddenly start seeing words turn into sentences in his mind. It would usually happen when he was on the pot in the toilet, or so he says. By the time he washed his hands he would lose track of what he dreamed up. So, four years later at a bar drinking something, he tells me he’s giving up on the idea of writing because he just couldn’t do it. Two months later he wrote his first chapter. I’m not saying you need to give up on a dream to start the ball rolling, or that you need to spend more time on the pot, I’m just saying…. Actually, I have no idea what I’m supposed to say. All I know is this. Good things come to those who wait. When something has to happen it will happen. Until then, do what you’re doing. You never know when inspiration will strike you. If you find yourself in the same situation ten years from now, well, kick yourself for listening to me in the first place.

Love over gold

When I was younger, I dreamed of driving a Ferrari and owning a villa on the beach by the time I was 30. I’m turning 35 in a few days and I drive an old Santro which my father gave me after he bought a new car and still live with my parents. I feel like a failure.

A failure? You can drive, you have your parents and I would assume you have a few years on that resume of yours. Whatever you do, even if it is something small, it’s worth it if you love what you do. Cars, villas and other material things, they shouldn’t hold a candle to family, a good life and friends who love you. That’s what matters really. Atleast it’s what I’ve been telling myself for near on 20 years. Besides, who wants to drive a Ferrari in Goa anyway? You’ll ruin the experience.

Split loyalties

FC Goa, Manchester United, Indian football team, FC Bardez…I support all these teams. People tell me that I’m not supposed to divide loyalties but how can I choose? I’m from Bardez so FC Bardez is my team since they are playing really good football and I want to support them. I obviously support FC Goa because I’m Goan. I actually also like Dempo SC because it was the first team I ever saw live. I love Manchester United in Europe and I support the Indian football team because I’m Indian. Isn’t that enough reason to wave all their flags?

Santosh

I completely get you. I’m an Arsenal fan, I also support Borussia Dortmund and FC Goa too. And yes, I will cheer for the Indian national football team as well. So I know exactly how you feel. What do some of these guys know anyway? Most of them are probably bitter because they are new football fans who haven’t had the pleasure of winning the league before 2004 when football was at a different level or perhaps because they’re idiots. Whatever be the case, you go for it, you fly wave those flags and wear the jerseys with pride. Who makes up these rules anyway? Who says you only have to support one team? Who says you can’t go home? Wait, why do I have Bon Jovi playing in my head all of a sudden?

On this day in 1847, written by Charlotte Bronte under the pseudonym Currer Bell is published.
