Between the Lines, the monthly reader’s club at Gallery Gitanjali in collaboration with The Poetry Quarter will host Personal Effects, a poetry reading by Manohar Shetty on September 30, 6 pm, from a selection made by the poet from his eight books of poems. The ‘subjects’ range from Goa and Mumbai to birds and beasts, from love lost and found to the art and craft of poetry itself. The reading will be followed by a Q & A session.
Manohar Shetty has published eight books of poems including ‘Domestic Creatures’, ‘Morning Light’, ‘Creatures Great and Small’ and ‘Living Room'. In the UK his poems have appeared in ‘London Magazine’, ‘Poetry Review’, ‘Wasafiri’ and ‘Poetry Wales’, while in the United States his poems have appeared in ‘Chelsea’, ‘Rattapallax’, ‘Fulcrum’, ‘Shenandoah’ (Washington and Lee University), ‘The Common’ (Amherst College), ‘Atlanta Review’, ‘The Baffler’ (Cambridge, MA) and ‘New Letters’ (Kansas), and in ‘Helix’ in Australia.
Several anthologies feature his work, notably ‘The Oxford India Anthology of Twelve Modern Indian Poets’ and in anthologies edited by Eunice de Souza, Vilas Sarang and Jeet Thayil. His poems have been translated into Italian, Finnish, German, Croatian, Slovenian and Marathi. He has edited ‘Ferry Crossing: Short Stories from Goa’ which has gone into several editions and ‘Goa Travels: Being the Accounts of Travellers from the 16th to the 21st Century’.
