After yet another exciting edition last year, the Goa Marathi Film Festival 2016 is all set to bring in showers of fun, excitement and thrill of Marathi Cinema from June 3 to 5 at Kala Academy, Maquinex Palace and Inox. Film aficionados from Goa and the neighbouring states are in for a treat with a remarkable lineup of movies, educational workshops and interactive sessions, star studded premieres and noteworthy celebrity appearances.
The core of the festival lies in its lineup of films and this year's lineup will feature critically acclaimed and national award winning films of the season.
One of the biggest launches and World premiere at the festival this year is the mega multi starrer movie ‘One Way Ticket’. The movie boasts of having filmed abroad in countries like Spain, Italy and France and the being the first Marathi movie which is picturized on a Cruise. It’s a one of its kind movie which reflects grandeur through its production and execution. Directed by Amol Shetge, the movie stars Shashank Ketkar, Sachit Patil, Amruta Khanvilkar, Gashmeer Mahajani, Neha Mahajan in lead roles. One way ticket is the story of inter-related destinies. It is a story of what a journey can do to you; a story that goes to show how a lifetime can be lived and experienced in a span of only eight days.
Dot Com Mom, the first Indo-American Marathi film will also be premiered at the festival. Directed and acted by Dr. Meena Nerurkar, this film portrays an emotional relationship between a mother and her son. It’s the first time that 11 producers have come together to make a film which has been majorly shot in the United States.
The films to be showcased include; Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, a national award winning film based on a play by the same name. This film also marks the acting debut of Shankar Mahadevan and directorial debut of Subodh Bhave. Ranga Patanga touches upon the struggle of a farmer. The film has won the Best Film and Best Direction at the Pune International Film Festival 2016. Sairat, a love story is the first Indian film to record music at Sony Scoring Studios in Hollywood Los Angeles and was selected for 66th Berlin International Film Festival. Blockbuster film Natsamrat depicts the life of a retired actor, played by the veteran Nana Patekar, who is unable to forget his fond memories of theatre. The film has won the best Marathi Film- Zee Cine Awards 2015. Other inspiring movies include Biscuit, Damlelya Babachi Kahani, Enemy, Halal, Kaul, Partu, Rajwade and sons, Ringan, Silence and Vakratunda Mahakaaya.
