Goan awarded for social, cultural, sports activities

A Goan businessman from Chandor has been recently awarded the Rex Karmaveer Global fellowship and Karmaveer Chakra award (2023-2024), in recognition of his contributions in social, cultural and sports activities.

The award was presented to Domnick Mendes during the Rex Karmaveer Global Fellowship conclave for Karmaveer Chakra Awards 2023-2024 instituted by iCONGO in partnership with the UN at Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad.

At the Rex Karmaveer Global Fellowship conclave, Mendes was commended for his entrepreneurial spirit, leadership skills and dedication, besides significant contributions to various organisations in different fields.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this award. It is an acknowledgment to the dedication, passion and hard work that I have put into my endeavours. Through my involvement in various organisations, I aspire to make a lasting impact on the world around me and inspire others to create positive change,” Mendes told The Goan.

Mendes has four different firms, Dom Engineers & Contractors, Mendes Shutters & Automations, Mendes Real Estate and Resort Paloma de Goa.

Apart from his professional accomplishments, Mendes said he is deeply committed to giving back to society.

“I actively participate in social initiatives aimed at improving the lives of many individuals. Through my philanthropic efforts, I support education programmes, healthcare projects, and environmental conservation initiatives.”

“I collaborate with various organisations such as Chandor Club, Mount Youth Association, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, SH-8, St Joseph’s Ex-Students Association to organise events, cultural activities, that celebrate the richness of different traditions,” said Mendes, who was instrumental as President of Chandor Club in completion of the Chandor club house.

Sports also holds a special place in Domnick’s heart.

“I represented Goa twice in football at the school nationals and the Goa University team which won the all-India title. I also played volleyball, table tennis, badminton, carrom, slow cycle race, and actively engages in promoting tournaments and healthy lifestyles,” said Mendes.

“Understanding the positive impact that sports can have on the individual’s physical and mental well-being, I have sponsored local sports teams, tournaments, and have also advocated the development of sports infrastructure in my community.”
