Green Day once sang, “Wake me up… when September ends”. It’s not really relevant, to be honest, with what we’re talking about here but it’s September and we’re talking about Green Day. Surely you see a connection? So, in the build up to the release of their new album Revolution Radio in October, Green Day have debuted a new song called ‘Bang Bang.’
The video is simple. Three people dressed up as Green Day rob a bank. Elsewhere, supposedly at the same time, Green Day is playing a show in a small room, presumably a house. Now, here’s the thing, we know videos are fun and all that jazz (or punk rock) but this is Green Day, the guys who did so many amazing songs. Surely there should have been more imagination when it comes to the video. The song however, is great. One can find strains of old Green Day from the Dookie days in there; There’s also a lot of American Idiot in there too, with a dash of Nimrod. Basically, Green Day is trying to go back to their heyday of punk rock, but retaining some semblance of the sound that made them a commercial success around 2010 etc.
