Two of the world’s finest design artists are coming together in an astonishing new show at Sunaparanta entitled ‘Still Life’ - Gujan Gupta and Paul Mathieu. Known for her unique, cerebral interpretation of seats and tables, among other objects, Gunjan Gupta is a widely celebrated artist, with a studio practice out of Delhi. French designer Paul Mathieu’s powerful design oeuvre draws on his love for India, his own heritage from France, and a refinement derived from collaborating with, among others, skilled Italian craftspeople.

Gunjan’s works such as Gaddi Bicycle Throne and Aloo Bori Chair are odes to the seat, defining them as well as playfully broadening their meaning with her bold, singular strokes of genius. Some of this feted artist’s classic works such as Potli Chair  will be shown for the first time in Goa.

Paul’s extraordinary pieces such as the Hanuman Chair, held in his private haveli in Udaipur, make their first public outing to Sunaparanta. As designer of the feted Gyan Museum in Jaipur, New York based Mathieu’s design works are sophisticated, deferential homages to Indian objects “ such as his Black Armoire wardrobe.

Paul Mathieu’s furniture and lighting designs are like the man himself - unique with depth and style. Be it a bespoke creation or any piece from his collection, or his avant-garde furnishings, his designs are pure Paul Mathieu in their exquisite craftsmanship and aesthetic austerity fabricated from the finest of materials and with innovative technology. His authentic designs have transcended borders and can be found within some of the world’s most coveted international furniture collections, such as Donghia, Holly Hunt and Ralph Pucci, to name a few.

On the other hand, Gunjan Gupta’s work borders between design and art with the unique philosophy that captures the cultural narrative and paradoxes of India. A revered name and one of the leading product designers in the country, she has a host of accolades to her credit and has been instrumental in putting India and it’s rich collection of designs on the map. From the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur award in 2007, to winning the Designer of the year award by Elle Decor, 2012, Gunjan and her iconic designs have been appreciated all over the globe.
