Look out for an excellent sample of Portuguese films at the VII Lusophone Film Festival which will be held from December 11 to 14 at the Marquinez palace in Panaji.
The festival, which is being organised as part of the Semana Da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa (Goa) celebration, will open with the film 'Skin' by Fernando Vendrell. If you are a keen film buff, here's your opportunity to meet up with the director, winner of the prestigious Academy award, who is specially being flown down for the occasion.
Some of the other Portuguese films which will be screened as part of the festival are The Refugee (Director - Rui Cardoso), Cats Don’t Have Vertigo (Director - António - Pedro Vasconcelos), Night (Director - Aya Koretzky and Rodrigo Barros), The Pilot Boat, (Director - Francisco Manso), The Lovebirds (Director - Bruno de Almeida) and What’s New About Love? (Director - Hugo Alves, Mónica Santana Baptista, Hugo Martins, Tiago Nunes,PatrÃcia Raposo, Rui Alexandre Santos).
Another movie to really look out for at the Lusophone Film Festival is ‘The Consul of Bordeaux’ directed by Manuel Gonsalves, which was the opening film at the International Film Festival of India and is a stunning story about Aristides de Sousa Mendes, who issued 30,000 visas for safe passage to Portugal during WWII, in June 1940, defying the direct orders of his government. Among them were 10,000 persecuted Jews.
All the movies will be presented with English subtitles.
The Lusophone Film festival is organised every during Semana Da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa (Goa), which is a unique celebration of Goa's Portuguese influenced culture, by showcasing it through a series of annually organised events across the state. Goa was a former colony of Portugal and was under colonial rule for 451 years, before the region was liberated by Indian armed forces.
