Denzel Washington numbers himself among some of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors, bringing a unique flare to every character he plays. For Fences, we may as well just hand him the Oscar now, because it looks like yet another incredible performance.
The long-awaited film version of August Wilson's Tony- and Pulitzer-winning drama , starring Denzel Washington, Viola Davis and several other cast members of the acclaimed 2010 Broadway revival, has released its first trailer.
is the story of Troy Maxson, a Pittsburgh sanitation worker who once dreamed of a baseball career, but was too old when the major leagues finally admitted black players. He tries to be a good husband and father, but his lost dream of glory eats at him and causes him to make a decision that tears his family apart.
Washington plays a fiercely traditional father, with a son constantly seeking to earn his approval. Alongside fellow Oscar-worthy actor Viola Davis, we have a powerful combination of talent leading the bill. Also in the film: Jovan Adepo () as Washington's son Cory and Saniyya Sidney () as daughter Raynell. Oh and Washington directed Fences himself.
The film had been announced to premiere December 16, but the date has been rescheduled to December 25. It will be eligible for 2017 Academy Awards consideration.
