Kala Academy and ProMusicaare all set to present India's star pianist Julian Clef in a recital featuring works by Chopin, Rachmaninov and Scriabin on October 17, 7 pm at Kala Academy Panaji. Born in Kerala, the 26 year old musician first began his formal piano training at the Chethams School of Music, in Manchester. He then studied piano under the direction of Murray McLachlan until he graduated with a B.Mus (Hons) Degree. He went on to gain a Master’s Degree in Music under the guidance of Professor Dina Parakina from Russia. Over the years, Clef has performed in many venues around India and across the UK including Buckingham Palace, St. Martin in the Fields, the Foundling Museum in London, Leeds College of Music etc. He has taken part in and won prizes in many competitions like the EPTA (European Piano Teachers’ Association) UK Piano Competition in 2007, the 2008 Beethoven Junior Inter-Collegiate UK competition held in London by the BPSA (Beethoven Piano Society of Europe) , the William Mathias Festival competition. He also won the RNCM Gold Medal in 2011. Among the pieces that Clef will perform as part of his Goa performance are Intermezzo in E flat Major Op 117 No 1 by Brahmn Arabeske op 18 by Schumann and Etude Op 10 No 3 and 7 and Sonata No 2 Op 35 'Funeral March' by Chopin.
