Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, General Directorate for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Suburbs General Directorate for Performing Arts and GAI “ Association for the Circuit of the Young Italian Artists in collaboration with Gram Art Project, this is Zanetti's first ever solo showing in India.
Curated by Valentina Gioia Levy, an independent Italian curator, The Pillars of the Earth is a project that the Italian artist realized in collaboration with Shweta Batthad, Gram Art Project and MOG Museum of Goa with the support of Movin’Up.
It consists of a series of participatory performances and workshops involving different Indian rural areas.
Zanetti builds a network of collective actions that address to an audience at the edge of the international art circuit. In particular, the artist has chosen to work in rural areas, starting from the village of Melgath, in Maharashtra, the village of Paradsinga in Madhya Pradesh, some rural areas of Nagpur, Jaipur and finally in Goa and Delhi.
In each of these places, Zanetti will cooperate with local people in order to create a series of workshops, performances, laboratories that will encourage the exploration of individual and collective potentialities. The project is an invitation to everyone to turn upside down the point of view and the perspective with which one observes the world. To share a collaborative and creative experience with people from different cultural backgrounds, giving birth to a new network of persons which are ready to open their mind to something else and to think differently is the first aim of Zanetti’s work. The project is meant to be a way of experimenting new ethics, in search for new forms of spirituality which can connect different people and territories.
In The Pillars of the Earth every action is an opportunity to overturn our point of view”, says Zanetti, adding, "the world is supported by everyone of us, together with each other. What I propose here is an utopian action but, as claimed by Daisaku Ikeda, the revolution brought by a single individual can contribute to change the destiny of an entire nation and of all humanity.”
The exhibition in MOG is a fundamental step of the project. It presents the final result of Zanetti’s actions on the territory, and matches perfectly with the mission of MOG, the museum created by director Dr. Subodh Kerkar, who is working to break down the social barriers that limit the access of people to culture and to artistic creation.
The exhibition will remain open until April 4 at the Museum of Goa, Pilerne.
