Over the years, Fundacao Oriente has helped restore several architectural and cultural legacies spread across Goa and the state’s multi-religious communities.
This time round, the Macau-headquartered cultural organization sets its sights on Mumbai and the city’s Catholic community.
The Panaji-based Fundacao Oriente has organized a presentation by Sidh Daniel Losa Mendiratta on ‘Framing Identity - Cityscapes of architecture of Mumbai’s catholic communities from 16th to 20th centuries’.
The project's main objectives are the production of knowledge that can contribute to the debate concerning heritage of Portuguese origin/influence in the region of Mumbai and access how that same heritage can enrich the cultural diversity of Mumbai's inhabitants, by addressing and sharing issues related to its conservation. The project will also address the issues of the role that the East-Indian community have in the Mumbai and the community's relation to the referred heritage.
Sidh was born in Porto in 1977, with an Indian and Portuguese-German background. In 2013, he started his post-doctoral research project ‘Framing Identity’. Cityscape and architecture of Mumbai’s catholic Communities (16th to the 20th centuries’) based in the centre of Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.
He is currently a post-doctoral researcher in CES, University of Coimbra. During 2001/2002, he studied as free-mover student in the Goa College of Architecture.
