With a focus on activities pertaining to nature and environment, 30 altar servers of Holy Family Parish at Alto-Porvorim took part in a fishing contest on Sunday morning.
Armed with their fishing equipment, they travelled to a water body situated in the picturesque fields of Salvador-do-Mundo, where they were engaged in the traditional pastime of fishing with anglers.
"The purpose of this activity was in keeping with our Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao's pastoral exhortation, highlighting the importance of being conscious towards environment and nature," explained Holy Family Parish Priest Fr Tomas Lobo.
"In this regard, the altar servers were given an experience of gardening a few weeks ago, followed by fishing on Sunday. Similar activities will be organised for them during the pastoral year."
"The altar servers enjoyed this traditional art of fishing as could be seen from their young faces brimming with pure joy and contentment. We also appreciated the parents for accompanying their children and encouraging them to participate in such activities," Fr Lobo added.
Those altar servers successful in catching fish were felicitated by Fr Lobo with trophies and medals and they included Shawna Diniz, Savina D'Cunha, Darrel D'Souza, Megan Misquita and Minoshka Pereira.
Earlier, before leaving for their fishing expedition, the altar servers unveiled their new soccer jerseys in the Holy Family Church compound.
