You may love it or hate it, but the day exists, and it just passed, raining the world with a host of pranks. From individuals to companies and even government agencies unleashed their inner prankster on April Fool’s Day. One of the most famous pranks in Goa was perhaps played by the comic company LVC comedy.
LVC Comedy posted on Instagram that the world’s biggest comedian Russell Peters was scheduled to perform a show in Goa this May. The post went viral immediately with over 20,000 impressions in an hour. LVC producer, Siddharth Watve, claims, “My phone received 147 missed calls in an hour, and it was crazy, I’ve never felt more popular”.
Later,LVC owner Warren Viegas revealed in a post that this was an April fool’s prank describing the insanity. Viegas elaborated, “People created their own WhatsApp and Facebook groups to promote the show. My phone has never received more excitement followed by playful profanity. But the biggest kick was that Russell Peters himself was answering queries regarding the show on social media, just responding ‘April Fools!’.
Similarly, Goa Taxi revolution, a Facebook page that campaigns for Goa to open up to app-based taxi services Ola and Uber suddenly shared a post announcing that the government of Goa had entered into an agreement with the cab service giants late at night, and Goa might soon witness the popular cabs on its streets. Fortunately, this was immediately recognised by the users as a prank, but many went on to express hope that the prognosis becomes a reality in future.
Another post that could have brought great joy to a number of people, some tourists in Goa included, was made on a social network by the Narcotics Control Bureau of India. In it’s post, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) announced that cannabis would be taken off the list of Schedule 1 drugs. Currently, cannabis occupies the same legal status as opium and cocaine.
Citizens will be allowed to carry a maximum of 20 grams, and personal growers will be allowed to have up to 10 plants, the post stated, adding that the decision came around after the passage of a bill that argued against clubbing marijuana with other highly dangerous and addictive drugs.
While that prank by none other than the Government of India gave people a jolt of excitement, there was one more announcement made by a porn website which brought shock, and then laughter to its users. This website, which is one of the most visited in the world announced that it would now automatically share the videos watched by users on their Facebook profile! The website led the user to click on certain options, after which it was revealed was a prank.
