Much before the advent of electronic dance music and the balle-balle foot-tapping bhangra, formal dances were the soul of most Catholic festivities and other social galas. And at the crest of such dance events is the traditional Red & Black dance, which used to be organised right adjoining the State Secretariat in Panaji.
The Red & Black dance has survived decades as a tradition. And this year, the most looked forward to dance event will be hosted on the street right next to the historic Garcia de Orta garden in Panaji as part of the Samba Square initiative. The Red & Black dance conventionally is given the honour of closing the carnival festivities.
As the name suggests, the dress code for the event scheduled to be held on the evening of January 9 is red and black, both for gentlemen and ladies. This is a must-attend do, thanks to the infectious cheer, fun and revellery that the event has come to be represented with over the years. The Red & Black dance is attended by the who’s who of Goa and in recent times has been one of the top draws as far as carnival activities go. This is one street party, albeit a formal one, which you should ensure, you do not miss.
