Children are reading less than before today because they don't find immediate value in what they read in school anymore. This latest announcement, however, will hopefully help reverse the trend and help children develop a reading habit, which is what ultimately matters.
According to news reports, the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination has stated that students of ICSE schools will now reads books like Harry Potter, graphic novels of Asterix and Tintin, The Hobbit, Amar Chitra Katha, and Satyajit Ray’s Feluda in their English literature classes starting from the academic year 2017-18.
And it's not just the reading habit that will grow. Because lets not forget what the Potter books are all about. Besides inspiring an entire generation to take to reading with a gusto, J K Rowling's bestsellers also delve into topics of bullying, democracy, and inclusion.
Besides, it sure helps to be studying about a boy, who may be The Chosen One, but doesn’t get straight Os or even EEs (Exceeds Expectations for the Muggles). It comes as a happy change that the Board is looking at modernisation of the international curriculum and making it child-centered.The new curriculum was released at the 59th annual conference of the Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate (ISC) that took place in Lucknow recently in an effort to add more contemporary literature to the school syllabi from the next academic year.

QUOTES
Since I laid my hands on my first Harry Potter book, I always wanted to go to Hogwarts and would imagine my school to be one. It was always a dream that these would be our text books, but it was never fulfilled until now. Nevertheless, although I am no longer in an ICSE school, I definitely feel my juniors will have a blast studying about something they can be passionate about.

Aestrix and Obelix, Harry Potter and the Hobbit have been an essential part of our childhood. They have helped us grow with a limitless imagination and taught us to dream. Now kids can discuss what they loved about the books as a part of their curriculum which will be great for them.
