Fans always seem to be making up theories about why their favorite show characters behave in a certain way or are trying to uncover the supposed untold aspects about the show. Over the years, fans have also come up with a bunch of theories about Friends. After a recent video where Chandler is dead went viral, fans have now come up with a new theory- this time about Monica and Joey.
A Reddit user recently posted a theory listing reasons as to how Joey and Monica were actually drug addicts.
"Head chefs and sous chefs in high-end restaurants in NYC tend to get paid a lot, like 50-100 dollars an hour a lot," lolalodge wrote."Monica also lives in a rent-controlled apartment that she illegally sublets from her dead grandmother. She even has a roommate to share the bills with. She doesn't own an obscene amount of clothes or anything, doesn't go out to bars regularly. So where exactly does her money go?"
The theory continues that Monica stores the stash in her secret closet, which she was desperate to keep private. "It also explains why Monica is so high-energy and high-strung... [and] her rapid weight loss back when she was a teenager," the post adds. While Joey on the other hand smokes a lot of weed. "That's why he's always hungry, can eat a tonne of food, and is constantly napping and is kind of spaced-out and a lot of what other people say goes 'whoosh' right over his head," the user reasoned.
While not everyone will accept this theory, here's a look at some other theories that fans have conjured up about the show over time
Monica is Ross' half sister
Haven't you always wondered why Ross was the favorite Gellar child while Judy always found a reason to lash out at Monica? Well, a Reddit user came out with a perfectly believable theory stating that Monica was the result of Judy's extra marital affair and her guilt over the whole episode caused her to be harsh on Monica. It would also explain why Ross is way more into his Jewish heritage.
Phoebe was running way from killers
Phoebe's identical sister Ursula was usuing her name as an alias for a career in porn. When Phoebe learnt of this, she made off with Ursula's cheques. However, pretty soon after Phoebe's apartment with Rachel catches fire. Was Rachel's curling iron the cause - or had the porn barons / arsonists caught up with Phoebe after learning of her deceit? Also, there's the fact that Phoebe kept changing apartments after that, suggesting she was running away from something or someone. Plus she was awful keep to change her name to Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock.
Ross had Aspergers
Ross was the most intelligent person in the group, but he also appeares to share a lot of traits that are similar to Aspergers. He is socially awkward, has an interest in science, puzzles and didn't like ice creams because of sensory issues.
All the characters are in a mental asylum
According to this theory, all the characters are patients in a mental asylum for different reasons ” Ross had serious abandonment issues, Rachel had traits of a sociopath and Daddy issues, Monica had an eating disorder, Joey cracked under the pressure of being the only man in the family of girls, Chandler was scarred by his parent's dysfunctional relationship and Phoebe couldn't bear the trauma of her mother's suicide and living on the street. All the situations in the show are thus a result of shared psychosis where all the six characters indulge in delusions, which they share with each other.
