Toho's latest Godzilla reboot has been in Japanese theaters for well over a month, but now the film will coming over to American big screens. Shin Godzilla (or Godzilla Resurgence as it's also known) envisions the classic Kaiju reeking havoc in modern-day Japan for the first time.
In terms of trailers, this could be a bit more strategic. While the footage looks very grand and chaotic, it feels like a poor decision to barely include any Godzilla; it seems more like a teaser trailer. Is there any point in not showing the title monster? After all, this is only a limited release; you might as well go in guns blazing to get people who weren't previously aware of the movie excited. That being said, Godzilla does look very cool and the original music at the end is a nice touch.
Shin Godzilla will see a limited release from October 11-18. The film will be in Japanese with English subtitles, so fans of the dubbed films and haters of reading might want to pay attention to that information. You can buy tickets for the film here.
The film is co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, with a screenplay by Anno and visual effects work provided by Higuchi. Shin Godzilla is the 31st film in the Godzilla franchise, the 29th produced by Toho, and the third reboot from Toho. The film imagines an all new Godzilla bringing the thunder while the Japanese government and military scramble to find a way to stop the seemingly unstoppable monster.
