Museum of Goa will host a talk by Aude de Tocqueville on the Story of Gaste, on March 10 from 11:30 am “ 12:30 pm at Pilerne.
A few years ago in an old house in Burgundy, Aude discovered a hidden treasure, the archives of Georges Gasté, a French Orientalist painter and photographer who was born in Paris in 1869, and died in Madurai in 1910.
Struck by his refined and mysterious portraits, whose subjects stare at us intensely from the canvas; she decided to follow in his footsteps, across the Maghreb, Egypt and India, in search of an artist who once said, “Man cannot escape his destiny: we are in her hands and hers alone”.
Aude de Tocqueville has written several books on history and art. Fascinated by Paris, she has written a book on the history of a French family during the post war and several other works on the city itself.
Since 2010, after discovering the archives of Gasté, she has brought the artist to a wider audience through a biography, film and major exhibition of his works in France and other parts of the world.
