Check out this way too cute googly-eyed stubby squid ( Rossia pacifica, also known as the bobtail squid) spotted by an underwater Nautilus research team off the coast of California at a depth of 900 meters (2,950 feet). A rather rare species, the stubby squid spends its life on the seafloor, burrowing into the sediment to camouflage, leaving its eyes poking out to spot prey like shrimp and small fish.
And while it looks like it could be a cartoon character, it's actually real and is making waves on the internet.
As they filmed the purple creature, it just stayed stoic, gazing straight ahead with its huge eyes throughout the entire 2.5 minute video. Watch the squid's big moment here:
