A good book is packed with knowledge, life lessons, values, imagination, entertainment, fear, and helpful advice. Without books, we wouldn't know about cultures, historical events, and scientific creations. Books are quiet friends, they enrich our minds and improve our thoughts.
Noted author Stephen King once quoted, ‘Books are uniquely portable magic'. And indeed,there is no denying the wonder of books and how they can mould people's lives, change behaviours and even change the world.
And recognising this, Pandit Jawaharlal Behru instituted the National Book Trust India on August 1, 1957 to promote the book reading culture. And in honour of this, National Book Week is celebrated every year to commemorate the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The celebrations in the country commence from November 14 (Nehru's birthday) and continue till November 20.
