The soul of fado

The eight edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) hosted its annual fado singing competition at Institute Menezes Braganza recently. Judged by music aficionados Nadia Rebelo, Vasco Negreiros and Carlos Monteiro, the competition saw some of the state’s best talent compete onstage for the coveted prize.

In the 8 and 13 years category , Eric Pereira was adjudged the first place while Shawn Pacheco and Poorita Vaz won the second and third place respectively. Claudette Fernandes took home the first prize with a power packed performance in the 14-17 year category while the second and third place was awarded to Sigrid Fernandes and Amanda Botelho respectively. In the above 18 years category, Daniella Fernandes walked away with the first prize. Loraine Alberto and Joaquim Lourenco Fernandes won the second and third prize respectively.
