Twitter is known for making some really weird things trend. For the past few months, the social network was abuzz with politics, but after the election results, the spot for top trend of the day went to JCB machine! Now, anyone would wonder as to why on earth would #JCBkikhudai start trending on Twitter.
The drama in fact started with a video which showed a groom arriving at his wedding in a JCB machine. Within minutes, tweeple were asserting how a JCB was a better vehicle than most posh cars. Upto this point, the conversation was still sane, but Twitter being what it is, the humour became a little dark soon, and netizens began to connect the trend to various problems they were facing due to construction of roads around the country.
Because of this, the trend also reverberated in Goa. currently the state is witnessing a massive infrastructure overhaul and is sprawling with JCB machines. When the huge JCB machines roam narrow roads in Goa and start digging in the middle of the street, the traffic comes to a halt. Plus, the machine, which according to Twitter is a spectacular sight to behold, attracts crowds of curious onlookers. Netizens noted with glee that JCB machines digging a street in India attract more crowds than the matched in Pakistan Cricket league! And as the talk shifted to cricket, it was also observed that JCB is more reliable than RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore).
Further on, the social network was flooded with memes drawing upon popular pop culture phenomena ranging from Narcos to Avengers. One user tweeted that Dr Strange was indeed a lucky man as he had seen #JCBkikhudai thousands of times by reversing the time. Another user showcased pictures of a sad Pablo Escobar from Narcos, adding that this is how one feels when one does not understand why JCBkikhudai is trending. What’s more, the buzz reached the company JCB itself and the firm was quick to recognise all the love it was getting from India.
All things said and done, some netizens did make some smart memes to point out that #JCBkikhudai was a pretty shallow thing to trend. One of the memes showed Mahatma Gandhi asking ‘did I win freedom for the country so that you all could do such things?’ while another showed that a JCB driver earned far more money by sincerely doing his work while the crowds who stood watching the machine in action were wasting time. However, many people used the trend cleverly to highlight a number of issues people are facing around the country due to construction activity.
