Rock-ing start to Pilar Media’s Konkani Gospel song ‘Pashann’

The Pilar Media’s Konkani Gospel song ‘Pashann’ (Rock), which was released to celebrate India’s 75th Independence Day, has got off to a rocking start, having already received over 10,000 views within the first two days.

The viewers have acknowledged that this genre of Gospel song is first of its kind in the Konkani devotional song category.

Kimberly Fernandes, a music enthusiast says that ‘Pashann’ has “taken Konkani worship songs to a whole new level’, while Rajashree Sail, Professor of Konkani at Fr Agnel’s College of Arts and Commerce, was also of the opinion that this song is a “new beginning of spiritual music in Konkani”.

“When I listen to this song, I am filled with spiritual energy. I Can feel God’s loving touch,” says Elnish Rodrigues, an assistant director based in Mumbai.

For music lover James Goes, “the musical fusion of Rock, Indian classical and the worships lifts up the soul”. Similarly, Shanon Dias, a young Goan based in London, also said: “This music and passion tickled something within and drew my attention to God instantly.”

The lyrics of ‘Pashann’ are in Devnagari Konkani by Antara Bhide, theatre practitioner and freelance writer-editor for Rajhauns Sankalpana.

The song features singer, songwriter, composer and actress Naisa Lotlekar, while music is arranged recorded, mixed and mastered by singer, songwriter, music, film director and producer Ryan Mark Mathias.

Tablist Prathamesh Chari, musicians Grayston Vaz and Marwino D’Costa of A26 band have also shared their talents in recreating this music.

The cinematography and video editing is done by Ryan Mark assisted by Lilesh Shirodkar, while lighting is done by Swinton and Moses Rodrigues. The other singers in the song include Fr Mark Furtado, Fr Noel Menezes, Fr Seneto Peixot, Fr George D’Souza and Fr Elvis Fernandes.

The Society of Pilar is well known for its contribution in the field of music. One of its members, Fr Peter Cardozo is a music maestro, an exponent of Western music and also well-versed in Indian classical music.

Fr Elvis Fernandes is a trained singer in Hindustani Music and also performed the rap part of the song.

“Exceptional performance and Great work,” said JSF, singer, songwriter and music producer based in London, while lauding the entire team for their work.
