Rock music came into existence in the rock and roll era ofthe 1950s. Rock music has its focus mainly on guitars, drums and heavy vocals.These instruments are mainly used to create a deeper impact. Elvis Presley andThe Beatles are considered to be the fathers of rock.
Jazz music owes its origin to the African Americancommunities in the Southern United States of America. Cornet, trumpet,saxophone, piano and violin are the main instruments used in jazz music. Jazzmusic carries a strong and intricate rhythm and is a lot influenced by theblues as it uses blue notes and phrasing of melodies. Louis Armstrong, EllaFitzgerald and Freddie Hubbard were some of the most famous jazz artists.
Folk music or traditional music mirrors the needs, desire,likes, dislikes and life of the local people. Folk music mostly depicts thestruggle for survival and culture of the people. Country music is a genre thathas evolved out of folk music.
Pop music: Now, more importantly, most of us listen to musicoff the radio. This is generally Pop music. Pop or ‘Popular’ music is more likea combination of different styles but in itself is typical. It’s short andcatchy. We all recognise late Michael Jackson as the King of Pop even in hisdeath. Other famous Pop artists are Rihanna, Maroon 5, One Direction, Lady Gagaand so many more!
