Sugarcane farmers have upped the ante to hike the price ofsugarcane in Maharashtra.
Sugarcane farmers from Maharashtra including Kolhapur havelaunched a protest all over the State demanding increase in sugarcane price.
Member of Parliament, Raju Shetti along with farmersassociation and the Shiv Sena have joined the protest demanding increase insugarcane price to Rs 3000 per ton.
Protests by way of road blocks and hunger strike are in fullswing all over the state supporting the increase in price. The protesters haveeven issued threats preventing farmers from supplying sugarcane to factories,which could lead to a law and order problem in the State.
“Government should try and solve the issue for thebetterment of the farmers, or else sugar factories management should resolve itby discussing it with farmers,” MP Raju Shetti said.
Bhagvan Kate, President of Kolhapur District FarmersAssociation has warned that if the government failed to resolve the matter,they would not allow MPs, ministers and MLAs to step into Kolhapur.
“The management ofsugar factories should resolve the issue after discussing the price with thefarmers,” said BJP leader, Rambhau Chawan.
Rajaram Mane, the district collector of Kolhapur has saidthat the protesters should not take the law in their hands.
“Farmers can protest and put forth their demands withoutdisturbing the day to day life,” Mane said.
Sugarcane farmers had been protesting all over the state atvarious places to attract government’s attention over the price ofsugarcane.
