Bardez triumph helped Cong touch double digit?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 12, 2022, 12:36 AM IST

As the Congress’ debacle unfolded on Thursday, leaving the Congress stranded on 11 seats, a senior leader raised a moot point – would the Congress tally touch 11 seats if Michael Lobo had not come into the party on his cycle? In fact, Congress workers openly say the Congress would not have even touched the double digit figure if not for the party’s surge in Bardez. This has only thrown up a question whether the party leadership miserably failed to build the party from the grassroots over the last five years? Indeed, time for introspection?

CLP status: Digambar has task cut out

Opposition leader Diggu has a task cut out for him. While he has maintained his stranglehold over Margao, to register his eight consecutive win, questions are raised whether he would retain his status as the Opposition leader in the changing scenario. For, a section of party leadership in private say that Diggu too should share the blame for the Congress debacle in his backyard in Saxttidom, where the party struggled to win just three of the eight seats. Wait and watch whether the party leadership opts for a new CLP leader.

Will Luizinho stay put in TMC or retire?

As the Trinamool Congress party failed to open an account in the Goa election, Saxtti was abuzz with questions over the fate of party MP from Goa, Luizinhbab Faleiro. Questions are asked in political circles whether the TMC would retain Luizinhbab as the party Rajya Sabha MP, or the veteran of many electoral battles will stay put in the TMC or retire from active politics. The TMC could not open its account in Luizinhbab’s fiefdom, Navelim. The only solace for the Congress-turned-TMC leader is that the Congress too could not win in Navelim, nor could the Congress come anywhere close to the 2017 tally of 17 seats, which the party won under his leadership. Any questions?

Benaulim debacle: Churchill hints at EVMs

What went wrong for Varca strongman Bab Churchill, was the talking point at the counting centre when the TMC sitting MLA was trailing behind the Aam Aadmi Party. When the trend showed he was trailing behind, Churchillbab called a scribe covering the counting, reminding he had forewarned of manipulation of the EVMs. Incidentally, Churchillbab just a couple of days ahead of counting, had demanded counting of the VVPAT slips to rule out manipulation of EVMs. Howzaaaat?

When Cong leaders shut doors on Reginaldo

Questions are raised in Congress circles whether Congress leaders, who blocked Reginaldbab Lourenco’s entry into the party have any answer to his election as an Independent. Many in the Congress camp say certain leaders had shut the doors on Reginaldbab to ensure the three-time MLA does not pose any leadership challenge in the future. These leaders, sources said, set their eyes on the CM’s kodel without realising they need to first get the numbers to occupy the post. Any questions?
