CM meant biz in Salcete this time, campaigned in all constituencies

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MAY 12, 2024, 12:37 AM IST

What was the exact role played by Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant in minority dominated Salcete taluka to drum up support for BJP South Goa candidate Pallavibai Dempo in the just concluded Lok Sabha election? Well, unlike the 2019 LS election, when the BJP had concentrated more in South Goa’s hinterland than in Salcete, Pramodbab made his presence felt across the minority dominated taluka in the run up to the polls. That he visited each and every constituency in Salcete, right from minority dominated Nuvem and Benaulim to Margao and Cuncolim, shows that the CM meant business this time round and worked as per plan. Wait and watch.

Will INDIA bloc fight 2027 Assembly polls unitedly?

INDIA bloc partners plan to unitedly fight the 2027 Goa Assembly election makes reading interesting. In fact, political observers are on the job to find out what prompted the leaders to swear by the Alliance even before the declaration of the Lok Sabha results. For, differences amongst workers of the Alliance parties were palpable during the just concluded election for the two Lok Sabha seats. With 40 Assembly seats at stake, political observers wonder how the partners will go about the Alliance when the parties have set their eyes on the same electoral space. Any questions?

All eyes on Cong in Nuvem after 3 former MLAs support Viriato

How would the Congress go about in minority dominated Nuvem when as many as three former MLAs, leaving their differences, rallied behind Captain Viriatbab Fernandes in the May 7 Lok Sabha polls. Adv Radharao Gracias, former Minister Mickkybab Pacheco and Congress turncoat Wilfredbab aka Babashan all supported the Congress in their own way though they are not part of the Congress. Of the trio, Radharaobab may not be interested in electoral politics, but if sources are to be believed, both Mickkybab and Wilfredbab seemed bracing up to make a return in the 2027 Assembly election. Wait and watch.

Will the bonhomie between Reginaldo, Barbosa continue?

The Lok Sabha election had brought Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco and the BJP Curtorim block mandal on one platform in support of BJP South Goa candidate Pallavibai Dempo. Curtorkars, however, have a question or two to ask – will the bonhomie between Reginaldbab and the Anthonybab Barbosa-Snehabai Bhagwat BJP combine continue post-LS elections as well? Or will the mandal return to its usual ways of attacking and exposing the Curtorim MLA. The Curtorim Independent MLA is a coalition partner of the BJP-led government headed by Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant. But, that did not stop the local BJP workers to train their guns at the Independent MLA in the last two years. Any takers?

Filipe Neri stays away from LS campaign but not out of politics

Where’s former BJP Minister Filipe Neribab Rodrigues? Did he support any of the candidates in the fray for the South Goa seat? Or, whether he has called it a day in politics after his humiliating defeat in the 2022 Assembly polls, or whether it was part of his strategy to stay away from the Lok Sabha polls in order to return back to electoral politics in the 2027 Assembly election? Well, Filipe Neribab is one former Minister in Salcete who was not seen on the ground during the Lok Sabha campaign. The former Minister has been lying low since his shocking defeating in the last Assembly polls. Wait and watch.
