With the season at its peak, the Agriculture Department will hold a two-day ‘Mango Show’ in Panaji where dozens of varieties of the ‘king of fruits’ endemic to Goa will be on display and/or sale.
Director of Agriculture, Neville Afonso has said, the exhibition will be held at the Kala Academy complex in Panaji on May 17 and 18.
Mango growers of the State can participate in this exhibition and application forms will be available at offices of the Agriculture department. Those desirous of participating and entering their produce for the exhibition will have to apply by May 16 and exceptions will be made to permit late entrants on the day one of the exhibition.
Exhibitors are required to exhibit three varieties of mangoes they grow and they will be permitted to submit multiple entries, Alfonso said.
A food competition will also be organized on this occasion. An exhibition of pickles, maramba, Saath etc. will also be held. The winner of this competition will be awarded Rs 3,000, runner-up Rs 2,000 and third runner-up Rs 1,000. This year, people will get a chance to see and taste the rarest varieties/sub-breeds of Goa’s mangoes.
