Like-minded parties closely watching Cong’s game plan

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | OCTOBER 15, 2021, 11:41 PM IST

LEADERS OF like-minded political parties are closely watching Congress’ game plan for 2022. For, the Congress brigade has made its presence felt on the home turf of these like-minded parties, including Benaulim. That’s not all. The Congress leadership is believed to have fixed meetings in constituencies eyed upon by the regional outfit Goa Forward party. P Chidambaram’s latest call to the people of Goa to give the Congress a clear mandate in 2022 has only made the like-minded parties to sit up and think what’s the principal opposition party up to. Wait and watch.

Dussehra greetings, or there's more to it?

ON DUSSEHRA Day, Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant participated in RSS rally in Bicholim. Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane was in Saxttidom, overseeing the shifting of Hospicio to the South Goa district hospital. While returning home, the Jr Rane is believed to have dropped in at the residence of Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai, just a stone’s throw away from the district hospital. It isn’t clear whether Jr Rane paid a courtesy call on Vijaibab to extend him Dusshera wishes or there was more to something than meet the eye. Interesting isn’t it?

No merger, an understanding with TMC likely

IT WAS a week when Saxtti countryside was abuzz with reports over the possibility of merger of a regional outfit with Mamata Didi’s Trinamool Congress to unitedly fight the 2022 polls. Sources, however, said nothing has been formalized as yet. Sources in the know say a merger with the TMC in the strict sense of the term is ruled out. Wait and watch as reports emanating from Saxttidom states that an understanding may be worked out wherein the regional party retains its identity and at the same time the two parties contest the polls on a common banner.

Battlefield Benaulim: Churchill weighing options

WHAT DID Varca strongman Bab Churchill and daughter Valankabai discuss with Prashant Kishor when the duo called on the poll strategist at TMC leader Luizinhbab Faleiro’s residence earlier this week? The meeting between the Alemaos and Prashantbhai indeed raised eyebrows in Saxtti political circles, throwing up questions whether the NCP’s lone MLA is weighing options after the Congress entered his Benaulim turf during the weekend. Take note, Churchillbab’s 10-day deadline on his NCP bosses to take a call on alliance with Congress has come after the meeting at Luchel Caminho de Monte, Luizinhbab’s residence.

Hopes not lost for Moreno as Reginaldo stays put

HAZARD A guess what was Congress’ plan B in Curtorim had Reginaldbab Lourenco parted ways with the party? Well, when reports did the rounds in Saxtti countryside that the three-time Curtorim MLA was on his way out, ex-Curtorim ZP member Morenobab Rebello, a Congress ticket contender was called to Panaji by the party leadership. The party leadership apparently felt that Morenobab would be a fit candidate to take on Reginaldbab in 2022. It’s another matter that Reginaldbab has decided to stay put in the party. Wait and watch as Morenobab has still not lost hopes of getting the Congress nomination in Curtorim in the ensuing polls.
