‘Viksit Goa’ hoardings of PM and Kavlekar raises eyebrows

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | FEBRUARY 11, 2024, 01:12 AM IST

BJP’s probable candidates for the South Goa seat, ex-MP Narendrabai Tawadkar, former CM  Diggu, Speaker Rameshbab Tawadkar and ex-DyCM Babu Kavlekar were all prominently seen at the Viksit Bharat Viksit Goa rally at Margao presided over by Prime Minister Narendrabai Modi earlier this week. While Speaker Tawadkar and Diggu were seen seated on the dais, Kavlekar was part of the team that welcomed the PM at the venue. What’s, however has taken many a political observer by surprise were the hoardings dotting along the NH66 with the photos of the PM and Kavlekar. Any questions?

Vijai rakes up Cuncolim pollution issue, comes under scanner

Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai has come under the scanner of political observers, but for a different reason. In the just concluded Assembly session, Vijaibab raised the issue of Cuncolim Industrial Estate pollution, an issue that has been hanging fire in Cuncolim constituency represented by Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao. Since his election in 2022, Yuribab had not stopped raising Cuncolim pollution both in the Assembly and outside. That Vijaibab raked up Cuncolim pollution in the House has only raised many an eyebrow in political circles, more so when relations between the GF chief and Opposition leader has hit rock bottom. Any questions?

Lok Sabha polls: All eyes on Luizinho and Churchill

How would Saxtti’s veterans and Kumpars – Luizinhbab Faleiro and Churchillbab Alemao, go about in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, is a question asked in Saxtti’s political circles. The duo had joined the Trinamool Congress party in the run up to the 2022 polls, with the party nominating Luizinhbab for the Rajya Sabha seat from Bengal. After the 2022 electoral debacle, the Kumpars quit the TMC last year. Both have not joined any political party since then. While Luizinhbab seemed content in penning another book on Goa, the Varca strongman seemed undecided for the moment, on the coming polls. Wait and watch.

Rift widens between Tawadkar, Gaude over ST movement

The split appears wide open in the ST movement with battle lines drawn between the two camps headed by Speaker Rameshbab Tawadkar and Sports Minister Govindbab Gaude. Take note, this isn’t the first time that the Tawadkar-Gaude duo was involved in a face off. In fact, they were engaged in a cold war for long now. And, it’s no surprise that UTAA chief Prakashbab Velip has thrown weight behind Govindbab Gaude, inviting wrath of the Assembly Speaker. During the last Assembly session, Velip had demanded an inquiry by the Speaker how Opposition MLAs had entered the House with placards to corner Gaude over the collapse of the Kala Academy, Panaji. Any questions?
