'Spoilers in South': Will AAP retreat from LS poll battle?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | FEBRUARY 17, 2024, 12:55 AM IST

Why do Saxttikars believe that the Aam Admi Party (AAP) will stay out of the ensuing election for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat? Well, despite AAP declaring Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas as the candidate for South Goa, many feel that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party may not contest the election. Political observers say not only does the party run the risk of being branded as a spoiler, while others say the AAP simply does not have the wherewithal to take on the BJP in most of the 20 Assembly segments in South Goa. Venzybab’s opponents too have taken the social media to question why the MLA is running away from Benaulim to contest the Lok Sabha polls. Wait and watch.

Cong in damage control after Sardinha's statement on AAP

The Congress camp went into a tizzy after the party’s temperamental South Goa MP Francisbab Sardinha branded the Aam Admi Party as the B team of the BJP. No sooner Sardinhbab’s statement went viral,

party leadership led by President Amitbab Patkar and M K Sheikh were on a damage control exercise. With the Congress and AAP still part of the INDIA opposition bloc, efforts were made to convince Sardinhbab to see whether he could tone down his statement. And, the MP obliged by diluting his initial statement, saying parties contesting the South Goa seat other than the Congress do not have even one per cent chance of winning, but will split the secular vote one hundred per cent in favour of the BJP. Any takers?

Son dawn? Intrigue behind Digambar's no to LS ticket

Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu’s firm stand that he is not interested in contesting the South Goa Lok Sabha should have hopefully put an end to speculations that the former Congress Chief Minister is the front-runner for the ticket. Diggu had in the past confirmed that the party leadership in Delhi is keen to field him for the election. So what exactly is the hitch? Opponents and political observers wonder whether Diggu’s stand has anything to do with his son Yogiraj. For, the seven-time Margao MLA would certainly want the party to field his son in Margao in the event he makes it to Delhi. Is there any issue regarding the BJP ticket to Yogiraj. Why not pose the question to the BJP cadre for an answer?

Vijai's vantage: GF supremo amused by oppn turmoil

Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai must be enjoying with Man Friday Durgadasbab Kamat over the unfolding political developments in the opposition camp vis-à-vis the South Goa Lok Sabha seat after the AAP declared Venzybab Viegas as the party candidate. For, Vijaibab seemed to have not forgotten how the local Congress leadership ganged up with AAP, both within the Legislative Assembly and outside, to sideline him on many a public issue. He also seemed to have not forgotten that the Goa Forward Party has not been invited to join the INDIA bloc, of which AAP is a member. Just politics.

Political chess: Yuri's fish market move on Vijai's turf

What exactly did Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao try to convey when he raised a stink over the wholesale fish market? Take note, the wholesale fish market, which hit the headlines after an FDA officer unearthed fish laced with formalin, falls in the Fatorda constituency headed by friend-turned-foe, Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai. That Yuribab’s statement came close on the heels of Vijaibab taking up cudgels for Cuncolkars over the pollution in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, falling in the Opposition leader’s constituency, has left political observers to wonder whether it’s Yuri’s tit-for-tat to the Goa Forward Chief. Let’s await the next move in this political saga.
