Freedom fighter Raghunath Parshuram Kolgaonkar, who contributed towards the cause of Goa’s Liberation, was born in Candolim, Bardez, on October 5, 1927, to Parshuram Kolgaonkar. His legacy is preserved and showcased at the Sinquerim-based Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa – The Land, The Struggle, The People. Educated in Marathi at the primary level, he became a member of the Azad Gomantak Dal (AGD) and actively participated in the nationalist movement in Goa. During the struggle, he undertook activities in support of the liberation movement, including transporting weapons, hoisting the Tricolour and affixing posters in support of the nationalist cause. His involvement placed him at risk under the Portuguese administration, and he was arrested on August 14, 1955. He was subsequently imprisoned for 17 months for his participation in activities connected with the Goa Liberation movement. Despite the consequences of his involvement, he continued to be recognised for his contribution to the nationalist cause. He was awarded the Tamrapatra by the Central Government in 1973 in recognition of his role in the freedom struggle. He later worked in the Government service sector. His life reflects the participation of local activists who supported the movement through acts of resistance, communication and logistical assistance. Through his activities, Kolgaonkar contributed to the wider struggle for Goa’s Liberation.
